Biofreeze gel, is often applied by Head2Toe practitioners following osteopathic or injury treatments. It is a highly effective pain relieving gel. Originally devised by a chemist it uses cold as a form of pain relief, containing ILEX which is a natural analgesic extracted from the holly bushes in South America. It is non greasy and can be applied as required, resulting in a deep long lasting pain relief period, typically a single application should last several hours.

How does it work? The use of cold in the treatment of muscular-skeletal injuries is well documented. The application of ice to a twisted ankle for example will reduce inflammation around the joint thereby reducing the pain.

TENs is a non invasive drug free devise. The lightweight unit is attached to the body by wires to self adhesive electrodes placed on the body in the area of pain. This allows the delivery of small low intensity electrical charge across the area.

TENs works in two ways. Firstly it stimulates the body to produce its own natural pain relieving hormone called endorphins. Secondly by stimulating non pain nerve fibres to send signals to the brain that blocks out other nerve signals carrying the pain message.

TENs can be a used as a replacement for conventional pain relieving drugs, or as an additional form of analgesic when the use of drugs is inappropriate.
